Cooper was sent through the door just after 7, he laid down but it was an early wake-up for us by 8. Harley was playing with a toy on the floor, but S discovered she had actually been rubbing her cheek on the carpet, creating a large bloody spot. After making coffee, he cleaned it up. I sent them outside for a while, then treated her face, only to discover a new hot spot. It seems she will be off to the vet today for additional medication.
Our little computer hacker hard at it this morning
We had leftover lunch then I prepared Harley's beef broth, starting another batch. The cooked bones went into the trash, which S will take to town. He packed his hockey gear, left via the ramp, and headed to town before 1 PM. Meanwhile, I was busy adding photos to tutorials and deleting unnecessary ones—a full-time job given the number of pictures I take each day.
Just after 2 PM, Harley loaded in the car and we headed to the vet. Dr. Jody confirmed that our care for the hot spot was correct, but she needs antibiotics as infection is getting worse. In the future, if she starts scratching, I'll shave the area immediately to check the scratch and apply the ointment right away. The moisture trapped in her thick fur is what causes the bacteria to thrive. Her assistant shaved off more hair and cleaned the area thoroughly, then provided us with different ointment and antibiotics, and we were on our way. Regarding her weight, she was 59.9 kg today, a slight increase from the last time. Also, her excessive drooling is due to nausea from the wormer, so I'll avoid that type in the future.
After loading her up, I swung by Tim's for an iced coffee on my way home since the temperature hit 15 degrees today. Once back at the ranch, I let Cooper out to join us for a walk. At the winter gate, I opened it and called the horses. They aren't the brightest; they followed me along the fence instead of through the gate, even as the dogs and I walked back to it. Finally, Beibs caught on, and they all came out. That's when things escalated. The horses bolted towards the yard.
Upon reaching the gate, I had planned to let them out through the back gate into the field. However, they had other ideas, darting around the yard, avoiding the intended gate. I managed to lead Switch out by her mane, but it took over 15 minutes to get them all out and on their way. Beibs did manage to bend up the down spout as only collateral damage along with hoof gouges in wet grass.
Have you ever seen a cuter paleontologist before?
At 4 o'clock, I fed the dogs early since Har required food with her medication. Afterwards, I gave them each a large knuckle bone to savor in the sunshine. Returning to my photo sorting task, I had just begun my Spanish lessons when S came home at 5. It was time for the news and supper, during which I prepared a delicious fresh salad to accompany the leftover roast. The Flames were up against Boston—Dave's team. Despite the game, we took a break during the second intermission for a hot tub session, as it was 8 degrees outside.
Who can resist this little singer?
He was off to the TV room while I focused on today's blog. B was out after 8, and we talked about the vet visits before she ventured out to locate the horses on the dark 80-acre land, which was quite challenging. She managed to feed them and headed home before 9. The Flames lost in overtime, which brought S upstairs to catch the end of the movie and start watching another episode of The Lincoln Lawyer.
